Rwanda will start buying drugs from Uganda .
According to the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame who is on a 3-day State Visit says, his Government is committed to supporting the activities of Quality Chemicals Limited and promised that Rwanda will soon dispatch a team to discuss with the proprietors of the organization in order to be able to access their services.
President Kagame disclosed this today when he paid a visit to the Luzira-based organization that manufactures ARVs and anti-malarial drugs. Mr. Kagame who was conducted on a guided tour of the factory
During a meeting that he held with the management of the factory, the President promised to support further the development of the factory adding that “the government of Rwanda will be associated with the activities of Quality Chemicals Industry.”
He disclosed that the government of Rwanda will send a team to Uganda to hold discussions with the management of Quality Chemicals Company a number of issues and modalities in order to access the Company’s services. He said that Rwanda wishes to explore the possibilities of Quality Chemicals Company getting into joint venture with the organization that has already undertaken similar line of activities in Rwanda .
President Kagame stressed the need for the East African Countries to join together to complement some of the development issues in order to serve their people better.
Quality chemicals Limited’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Katongole requested President Kagame to help the company access market in Rwanda . He also asked the Government of Rwanda to purchase encourage its public sector to get requirements from the Luzira-based company.
Mr. Katongole disclosed that the company has plans to construct the second biggest plant for the manufacture of drugs for treatment of other ailments like diabetes and cancer, among others.
He called on the East African regional member countries to work and support each other “to prioritize our indigenous industries”. He noted that Sub-Sahara Africa is home to 80% of all malarial cases and 63% of all HIV/AIDS patients’ and yet less than 1% of the necessary drugs to combat these ailments is manufactured in Africa . He commended President Museveni for his support to the construction of Quality Chemicals Industry which, he said, has played a useful role in fighting a host of diseases.
